Now that we’re deeeep into summer, a lot of you might be thinking ahead to your fall projects — but not me! 🙂 Fall is my favorite season, but I’m still stuck in summer and just finished up this free crochet pattern for a pineapple garland! I originally made this garland for a tropical-themed couples shower I threw for my sister-in-law and her fiance back in March and I’ve since revised the pattern to look much more like a pineapple. Perfect as a party decoration, nursery decor, or general summer season home decor. Try it out and let me know what you think!
SUPPLIES NEEDED
- Any worsted weight (#4) yarn. I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn in jellybean and yellow (less than one skein of each needed for a standard length garland)
- Size I/5.5mm hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
STITCH KEY (U.S. Terms)
Sl St (Slip Stitch)
SC (Single Crochet)
HDC (Half-Double Crochet)
DC (Double Crochet)
SC Increase (two SCs in the same stitch)
SC2tog (SC two together)
NOTE: Gauge is not important for this project.
PINEAPPLE GARLAND PATTERN
To make the leafy tops, start with green yarn:
Ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sl st to beginning ch. 2
Continue working around:
Leaf 1: ch 4, sl st in first chain from hook, sl st in next, sc in next, hdc in last, sl st to next ch sp
Leaf 2: ch 4, sl st in first chain from hook, sl st in next, sc in next, hdc in last, sl st to next ch sp
Leaf 3: ch 4, sl st in first chain from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in last, sl st to next ch sp
Leaf 4: ch 4, sl st in first chain from hook, sl st in next, sc in next, hdc in last, sl st to next ch sp
Leaf 5: ch 4, sl st in first chain from hook, sl st in next, sc in next, hdc in last, sl st to next ch sp
Tie off, weave in ends.
At this point, you’ll have what looks like a star but kind of squished up, which is what we want!
Next we’ll attach our yellow yarn and do the body of the pineapple:
Attach yellow yarn at bottom left of pineapple top, right into the space where we just tied off our green. This portion will be worked in rows.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc 2 in the first stitch, sc in the next, sc 2 in the next, turn (5)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc 2 in the first, sc in the next three stiches, sc 2 in the last, turn (7)
Row 3-7: Ch 1, sc in each across, turn (7)
Row 8: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next three stitches, sc2tog in the last (5)
Row 9: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next, sc2tog in the last (3)
Make as many as your heart desires!
Lastly, you’ll want to crochet a long chain to hang them up on. Once you have your chain as long as you need to fit all your pineapples, you’ll thread the chain through the pineapple where the green tops meet the yellow bottoms (I used the green chain spaces where you did your sc increase with the yellow). See photos below for reference:
And you’re done! Hang this fruity baby up at your next summer party, use it as nursery decor, or just keep it up in your living room all summer long!
