Happy summer! Here in Kentucky it has been raining a lot this spring and summer, and when it’s not raining it’s super hot and humid! But I’ve got big plans for Independence Day this year with some friends coming into town, so hoping the weather will be dry and mild. Other big plans include: launching my blog and my very first free crochet pattern! eep!
When I was just starting out with crochet, I used to think it was more of a winter sport — what could I do with a bunch of hats and scarves in the summer!? However, as the years have gone on, I’ve realized that there are about a million things you can crochet in the summer: home decor, kitchen accessories like potholders, trivets, and even dish sponges, lightweight clothing like tank tops and bathing suit cover ups, bags and backpacks, the list goes on! So when I was brainstorming some July 4th decorations for the party I’m having, I decided to create a crocheted banner. This is a simple pattern, great for beginners and looks great hung on the wall or mantel.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
- Any worsted weight (#4) yarn. I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn in red, white, and blue (less than one skein of each needed)

- Yarn needle
- Scissors
